Court Annuls Petty Trader’s Marriage
An Alimosho Customary Court in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, has dissolved a marriage between a businesswoman, Mrs. Sekinat Adeleke, 32 and her husband, Mr. Ismail Adeleke, 34 due to irreconcilable differences.
The marriage was dissolved following a petition filed before the court by Mrs. Adeleke where she accused her husband of beating her always and refusing to provide feeding allowance for her and the children.
“My Lord, I will use my money to cook food and my husband will eat and still complain that it was not well cooked and will beat me. He does not take care of me and my three children. There is no more love between us,” the petitioner who lives on 7, Ifagboye Street, Baruwa stated.
She also accused her husband of trying to use her for money ritual. “On 28 January, 2010, I was very sick. I sought help from an Alfa who told me that my hair have been shaved for ritual. He told me that those who shaved my hair wanted me to either run mad or die very soon. I informed my husband’s elder brother who told me to discuss the matter with my husband.
“On getting home, my husband was angry that I reported him to his brother and beat me mercilessly. That day, I had to pack out of the house,” she disclosed.
Responding to the allegations, Mr. Ismail Adeleke who resides on 47, Olusesi Street, Ibadan, Oyo State, denied the allegations but was not against the dissolution of the marriage. After hearing from the parties, the court dissolved the marriage and directed the parties to go to the family court on the custody of the three children of the union.
Pending ruling on the custody of the children by the family court, the court asked the petitioner to take temporary custody.
Both parties were also warned to keep the peace.
