Security Guard Docked Over N2m Theft

A security guard with one of the communication networks, Richard Okotie, on Monday appeared before  a Somolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a generator valued at N2 million.

Okotie, 42, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the  offence on Jan. 23, at Mende, Maryland.

According to the prosecutor, Okotie, a security guard on night duty, connived with others now at  large to steal one generator.

Adegoke said that the 20KVA generator belonged to Airtel Communications Ltd.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code,  Laws of Lagos State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded  not guilty.

Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, the magistrate, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one  surety in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case till Feb. 16, for trial.
