Teenager Jailed 5 Years
Ebuka Okafor, a teenager and bus conductor, was on Monday sentenced to five months’ imprisonment by an Abuja Senior Magistrate’s Court, Karu, FCT, for cheating one Kenneth Ugwuke.
Okafor was, however, given an option to pay N5,000 fine after he pleaded guilty before the court.
The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Silas Nanpan, told the court that on Jan. 24, the complainant entrusted his Nokia brand mobile phone worth N15,000 with Okafor for use.
Nanpan said that Okafor collected the handset, sold it and converted the money into his use, without the complainant’s consent.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Penal Code Law and urged the court for summary trial.
The prosecutor also pleaded for a compensation of N15,000 to be paid to the complainant.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Chinyere Nwacheonwu, said the convict had not shown the court the reason why he should not be convicted.
Nwacheonwu, therefore, sentenced the convict to five months’ imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine.
She also ordered a compensation of N15,000 to be paid to the complainant.
