Man, 50, Jailed For Possessing Indian Hemp
The Federal High Court in Gusau has sentenced one Sabo Aliyu, 50, to 18 months imprisonment for possessing 8.1 kilogrammes of Indian hemp.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, told the court that the accused was apprehended on Dec. 21, 2010 in Kaura-namoda by the NDLEA for the offence.
Abubakar tendered confessional statement of the accused person recorded by the NDLEA, laboratory certificate and the recovered 8.1 kg of Indian hemp before the court as exhibits.
He said that the offence was punishable under section 19 of the NDLEA Act.
The accused pleaded guilty and pleaded for leniency, saying he had three wives and four children.
The Judge, Justice Zainab Abubakar, said that based on evidences before the court, the accused person was guilty as charged and sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment.
