Ribadu Still In Search Of Running Mate

Despite the fact that the name of Stanley Ogochukwu, a Nigerian said to be based in Spain, has been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the running mate of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in the 2011 presidential elections, P.M.NEWS can reveal that the search for a Vice Presidential candidate for the former anti-graft agency boss is still on.

A source close to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, told P.M.NEWS that the name sent to INEC on Monday was a stop-gap measure and that the real candidate that will run alongside Ribadu will emerge within the next 24 hours.

The source said the ACN presidential candidate will use the opportunity provided for substitution of candidates by INEC to bring in his final choice of Vice President.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Nigerian Finance and Foreign Affairs minister and currently, a managing director at World Bank has been variously rumored as a likely running mate for Ribadu.

P.M.NEWS can, however, not confirm if she is still one of those being considered for the position.

Other leading presidential candidates submitted the names of their running mates alongside their names to the INEC on Monday.

Former Head for State, General Muhammadu Buhari, who is the presidential candidate of Congress of Progressive Change, chose Lagos cleric and political activist, Tunde Bakare, as his running mate.

Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, the incumbent Governor of Kano State and the presidential candidate of All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP, has also picked former Edo State Governor, John Odigie Oyegun as his running mate.
