Man Seeks Dissolution Of Marriage

A man, Mr. Sabanah Abiodun has asked an Agege Customary Court presided by Mr. E.B. Shokunle, to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Mrs. Anthonia Abiodun, for taking his children to church and refusing to convert to Islam.

In his words: “She has taken all my children to the church and she also refused to convert to my religion, Islam.

“Sometime, she will go for vigil for days before returning back home.”

He disclosed that an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court had earlier ordered her to convert to Islam and that if she refused, the matter should be referred to the Agege Customary Court, which has jurisdiction to decide the matter.

In her defence, Mrs. Abiodun told the court that trouble started when the petitioner stopped providing feeding allowance fpr her and the four children of the union.

She also explained that she had been a Christian all her life, even during their 25 years of marriage and had never followed him to the mosque to pray.

“When one of my daughters who was pregnant while in school died with the pregnancy and I was mourning her, my husband warned me not to cry in his house. He mocked my church for not being able to pray for the girl who was a sickle cell victim, to survive.”

But in his response, Mr. Abiodun told the court that he did all he could for the girl to survive but all to no avail.

After listening to the parties, the court adjourned the case till February 14 for judgment.
