Cable Thief Dies In Hospital
A man shot by security personnel while attempting to steal PHCN cables at Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, has died in a hospital where he was receiving treatment.
The suspect, John Akaeze was shot and seriously injured when he was caught while trying to steal cables supplied with a new transformer to the residents of Ogunade Avenue, Emmanuel Bus Stop, Off Governors Road, Ikotun, Lagos State.
Akaeze reportedly drove to the area in his Mercedes Benz car at about 3 a.m. armed with tools such as saw, hammer, spanner, plier and others to remove the cable.
He was unlucky as the security men on duty shot him in the leg and arrested him.
He was handed over to the police at the Ikotun Station who rushed him to the Ikeja general hospital for treatment.
He died a few days later. The cause of the death was not disclosed because no autopsy has been done. A source in the hospital said he must have died as a result of loss of blood.
