Comply Or Shut Down, Customs Boss Warns Agents

The Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko, has advised stakeholders in the  industry to be compliant or be shut down.

The CGC appealed to the terminal operators during a stakeholders forum recently to make sure their  operations are above average, and that any terminals found operating below average will be shut down.  Dikko has ordered all the Commands of the Nigeria Customs Service to organise monthly forums where  stakeholders would bare their minds and discuss their problems.

The Customs boss advised the stakeholders to take their jobs with all seriousness and refuse to be  pushed around by importers who do not care what becomes of them if found guilty of an offence that can  lead to confiscating of their certificate.

He also reminded them of his background. He told them he was born and brought up in Tin Can, Apapa,  which should at least warn the agents that are into sharp practices to be careful or else they will  face the music. He added that continuity of  their jobs should be their main concern.

According to Dikko the stakeholders should organise and put together a regulatory body among  themselves. He also has ordered that the scanner must work 24 hours enhance the 24 hours  clearing  process.

Based on the happenings so far, Apapa Command has been tagged the best port while the Tin Can-based  operators (Agents) were advised to desist from sharp practices and be compliant.
