For allegedly stripping two policemen naked, a 27-year-old man, Akinoye Dada, was on Thursday charged before a Somolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.
Facing a six-count charge of assault, conspiracy, damage, breach of peace and causing grievous bodily harm, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Dada, who is believed to be unemployed, was alleged to have conspired with others still at large to assault the policemen who came to arrest them for committing an offence.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, the accused and his accomplices conducted themselves in a manner that caused a breach of the peace on Jan. 27 at about 6.30 p.m. on Bailey St., Somolu, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused were also caught smoking Indian hemp to induce themselves into negative action.
Adegoke, who gave the names of the assaulted policemen as Sgt. Olajide Komolafe and PC Williams Vandi, said the accused also tore their uniforms.
“In a bid to evade arrest, the accused assaulted the police officers by giving them several blows and biting them,†the prosecutor said.
He said the offence contravened Sections 70, 247, 356, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 16.
