Couple In Court Over Murder

A woman, Funmilayo Apase, her live in lover, Mr. Adeyemo Ahmed and one Morufu Lawal have been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for the murder of an 18-year old boy, Efe Odoro.

According to the mother of the deceased, Victoria Odoro, 38, Efe left their residence at Uzor Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos on 2 February, 2010, for Ikotun, Lagos but she was told later that her son was killed for allegedly stealing a wallet containing N2,000 and a handset belonging to Apase.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Apase accused the deceased of snatching her wallet and handset which were were recovered from him. He was arrested and handed over to members of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, in the area, who tortured him to death. The case was reported to the police who arrested the couple and Lawal.

They were charged to court on a two-count charge of conspiracy to murder and unlawful killing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Emmauel Eshiet, said the offences were contrary to Sections 24 and 310 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Volume II, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2003.

When the charges were read to them, the accused pleaded not guilty but the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Olajuwon O. did not take their pleas because they were on a holden charge. She referred the matter to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned till 8 March, 2011, for mention.
