23 Hawkers Jailed In Lagos

The Senior Magistrate Court in Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, office in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos has  sentenced 23 street traders to one month imprisonment or a fine of N10,000 each.

The traders were found guilty by the court presided over by Mr. Adedamola Paul for contravening Lagos  State Environmental Laws.

All the 23 convicts could not pay the N10,000 fine and were taken to Kirikiri prison pending when  their relations will pay up the fine.

In another development, in order to meet with its challenges, the Lagos State Ministry of the  Environment has recruited 50 KAI officers.

The 50 new officers, according to the KAI boss, Captain Danjuma Meigeri (rtd), are to join the 50  officers drawn from all the zones across the state to take over the monitoring of pedestrians along  the Ikorodu Road in Ojota and Ketu axis where people are always in the habit of crossing the  expressway without using the foot bridge provided by the government.

The KAI marshal explained that the first two weeks of the operation will be used to sensitise the  public after which defaulters will be arrested.

Speaking on discipline, the KAI boss said some KAI troops and commanders who have been accused of one  crime or the other, are presently undergoing investigation and if found guilty, will be shown the way  out.
