CRC Lawmakers Seek REC’s Removal

The Cross River State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, passed a resolution asking for the removal or redeployment of Mr. Michael Igini, the state’s Resident Electoral Commission, REC.

The motion was moved by Mr. Dominic Akwa Edem, the deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.

He contended that Igini is incompetent, a NADECO activist who was working for the interest of the opposition party in the state by reducing the voting strength of Cross River State.

The lawmaker alleged that Igini was working in alliance with Senator Florence Ita-Giwa by asking registration officers to go to Bakassi, their ancestral home and not Akpabuyo where Bakassi people are relocated.

If the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, failed to recall Igini, the legislator said the forthcoming election will not be successful in Cross River State.

The PDP chairman in Cross River State, Ekpo Okon, recently launched a verbal war on Igini for his stance that the PDP must conduct state congresses in the state.

Since then, the PDP has declared the REC a persona non grata in the state, plotting his redeployment.
