Two goals from Taye Taiwo of Olympique Marseille in the 15th minute and Warri Wolves’ Ekitho Ehiosun in the 44th minute were all the Super Eagles needed to seal victory in their first match under Coach Siasia.

Siasia, who is reconsidering his choice of Lagos as venue for Eagles’ future matches, said what his team played yesterday gave him the confidence that he is on course in his plan to rebuild the senior team. Although, the Lagos fans booed the Eagles after Sierra Leone scored their second half goal, but Siasia said the unfamiliar astro turf of Teslim Balogun Stadium contributed to the lapses in the flow of play of his team.

“I’m indeed satisfied with the performance of the team in the match. This was really a good start for us and I’m happy that we won the game. Nigerians should not forget that Sierra Leone came here with an intension to beat us. My greatest happiness is that we have a team that paraded both the professionals and the home-based players. In the match, we saw the display of the local boys, this gave me joy that we are heading somewhere, I’m sure all of us will be proud of the team soon,” he said.

Siasia noted that the victory over Leone Stars has given the Eagles the confidence ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia and more importantly it has also exposed where we need to make some corrections and in the team.
