Soyinka’s Party Condemns Jos Killings
The political party founded by Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Democratic Front for a People’s Federation, DFPF recently concluded an emergency meeting in Abuja where it condemned the secretarian killing going on in Jos, Plateau state.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, DFPF bemoans the blood letting which has a long history of implicating the high in government. The party added that the perpetrators of the killings were causing such havoc for political gains.
The DFPF said it shared the belief of Nigerians who think religion is a private matter that should be left to the conscience of individuals or associations of like minds and not to be enforced by the government.
According to the party, there are criminal minded people in our society who used religion to brutalise others. The criminals, DFPF suggested must act pro-actively by empowering all security agents and the civil society to carry out a combined onslaught on the killers.
The party described the recently concluded voters’ registration as unsatisfactory while it described the two-week closure of schools as totally unnecessary.
On the international scene, the DFPF noted the protests in Tunisia and Egypt pointing out that the people have decided to revolt against dictatorship but the next could be a fight against false democracy.
