Laolu Akintobi popularly known as Laolu Akins, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, South West Nigeria, is an all round professional that has made great impact in the Nigerian music industry.
The highly talented drummer was a member of various top pop groups including Clusters International, Afro Collection, Salt (with Ginger Baker) with whom he toured extensively.
Laolu was the ‘L’ in the trio BLO, which rocked the music scene in Nigeria for many years in the mid 1970s.
As an outstanding musician, composer, music producer and repertoire consultant, he has produced many successful artistes like Mike Okri, Onyeka Onwenu, Sir Sina Peters, Adewale Ayuba and Orlando Julius.
Others are Queen Salawa Abeni, Abass Akande Obesere, Funmi Aragbaye, Wale Thompson and Demola Olota.
Former A&R Controller of the defunct Sony Music Nigeria, Laolu won Gold and Platinum awards on Adewale Ayuba’s Bubble and Sir Sina Peters’ Shinamania respectively in 1991 and 1992.
Today, he is the owner of Lagos-based multi-million naira dB 54 Studios.
