More Condemnations Trail Jonathan’s Rascality Jibes
More reactions have continued to trail President Goodluck Jonathan’s description of some leaders in the Southwest as rascals.
Action Congress of Nigeria, Southwest Caucus, described the president’s campaign speech as an ”uncouched verbal diarrhoea.”
ACN Director of Publicity (Southwest caucus), Ayo Afolabi, described the speech further as unpresidential and derogatory.
“The majority of the people of the Southwest not only read the President’s speech with utter disgust but were surprised that a supposed educated President who is believed to have seen the inside of the walls of a university from the undergraduate level could refer to political office holders genuinely voted in overwhelmingly by the people of the Southwest in such derogatory language as the President did.
”We wonder how Mr. President will feel if lesser mortals refer to him as a being a fool or a moron. We believe Mr. President was not Presidential in his comment at Mapo Hall. The people of the Southwest and indeed Yoruba will not go home to be tutored for a response in this case. ‘A ki se omo lo si ile lo gba esi wa,”’ he stated.
Afolabi reminded the president that the governors of the Southwest, Raji Fashola, Kayode Fayemi and Rauf Aregbesola, ”represent our forbearers who created the wealth that made the Southwest economical and political pioneers in Africa and has now become very attractive to the Akotileta and Jegudujeras as represented by your Oyinlolas, Onis and Akalas as found in the PDP in the Southwest.
”This incident has for the umpteenth time called to question your judgement. Compare Babatudne Raji Fashola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kayode Fayemi, a P.hd holder in War Stduies and Rauf Aregbesola, an Engineer and former Commissioner for Works in Lagos State for eight years with your Akalas of this world who grew from a police recruit to retire as a charge and bail DPO. The decision of who best fits a ‘rascal’ is left for your judgment.
”We advise that Mr. President take a second look and read between the lines at the speech made by your Godfather, Okikiola Obasanjo, where for once he owned up to the failure of his government and the PDP in the areas of security, economy, infrastructure development and power generation and distribution.
”We think Mr. President at the launch of his campaign would have performed better articulating how he would address the Boko Haram challenges in Borno, the massacre in Jos, the new dimension in bomb throwing, spearheaded by his kinsmen in the South-south and the bottomless pit that power generation had become on the Nigerian economy. Mr. President, get thinkers around you to school you on campaign promises and stop throwing barbs. He who lives in a glass house don’t throw stones.â€
“In any case, with this last mis-jives, the South westerners now know who you truly are. We are not disappointed as you could not have behaved better with a godfather like Obasanjo. We shall meet at the polls in April,” Afolabi stated.
