Trader Batters Cop To Death
Mallam Sulaiman Musa, 42, a grocery seller, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly killing a police corporal, Iredia Ohemen.
Sulaiman was alleged to have killed the policeman by hitting him with an unidentified object on 8 January, 2011, at Meiran area of Lagos State.
Investigations revealed that the policeman, attached to Meiran Police Station, had gone to buy some things at Musa’s kiosk when a hot argument ensued between them and this led to the accused hitting him with an unknown object.
The policeman, it was learnt, called his colleagues, who took him to the hospital. He was confirmed dead on arrival by doctors at the hospital.
The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful killing, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He was remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons on the orders of the court presided by Mr. M.O. Olubi who also adjourned the matter till 5 April, 2011, for trial.
