As actions in the Lagos Junior League, LJL, hot up, the team from Apapa remain unstoppable as they beat Nath Boys 2-0
weekend to consolidate their leadership on the table.
The match lived up to its original billing as it was a showcase of youth, speed, determination and technical abilities uncommon at that level of football.
The Apapa Golden Stars, as they are called, took all the points to climb the summit of Group B, while Nath Boys remain third.
The Home team spotted their usual Dark Blue apparel while Nath Boys were in their traditional red jerseys. The match kicked off in high gear with both teams going for early incussions. It was the Nath Boys who got the first taste of blood with Yemi Jimoh in jersey number 9. He released a powerful volley the was parried against the crossbar by the Apapa goalkeeper, who was alert. Apapa also had their chance at the other end as Wahab Habeeb (9) also hit the woodwork.
As the half wore on the Golden Star took control of the midfield with Sunday Abalo and his teammates invading the area and creating a flurry of chances. The first half ended goalless but not without entertainment.
On the restart, the Nath Boys lost concentration and paid for it in the 56th minute when they allowed Wahab Habeeb to find the back of the net due to poor goalkeeping.
The Golden stars maintained the pressure and were on song again in the 73rd minute. Yusuf Ibrahim slotted the ball out of the keeper’s reach, while the Nath Boys could not bounceback due to poor finishing.
The game ended with the Apapa fans dancing and singing in celebration of their team’s victory.
In the other matches, Mosan Okunola moved 3rd in Group A with a narrow defeat over Egbe Idinmu at LASUÂ Stadium.
Ojo rose from the ashes after a 6-0 humbling in the hands of Badagry West to beat Alimosho 4-0.
Kosofe also snatched the three points in an away win over Epe at Alade Stadium.
