US Team To Provide Free Medical Services

A medical team from the U.S. is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Feb. 26 to provide free medical care to patients in Kano, the leader of the group has said.

Dr. Ijeoma Nduka-Nwosu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York that the doctors would treat diabetes, arthritis, hypertension and malaria patients

She said that Ejayes Charities, an NGO, was coordinating the team, which included surgeons, internists, anesthetics, nurses and occupational therapists.

Nduka-Nwosu said the group targeted some 5,000 people living in rural communities in the area for the medical services.

She said the team was encouraged to plan the Kano visit following the successful outings in Nasarawa, Abia and Imo states.

“Ejayes medical mission is an attempt to take care of the under-served in different communities.

“We have been to Nigeria three times and last year we were also in Haiti.

“Our goal is to be the mouthpiece of those that have no voice,” the 59-year old Nigerian said.

The Consul-General of Nigeria, New York, Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu, who hosted the team ahead of their departure, commended the group for its efforts.

Auwalu expressed the optimism that the two-week visit would have a major impact on the health sector in the state.
