A robbery suspect, David Edegba, 26 who specialises in robbing worshippers inside churches and commercial motorcyclists around Agbowa and Okokomaiko areas of Lagos State has been arrested by the police in Lagos inside a church with a gun.
The suspect, according to the police, was arrested at St. Mary Church, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on new year’s eve as he was coming out from the church after his failed attempt to rob worshippers.
He was arrested by plain clothe detectives monitoring his strange movement immediately he entered the church premises. When searched, a locally made pistol was found on him.
He allegedly confessed to the crime of robbing churches in the area. His statement in the police information report reads: ”I am a lone robber who specialises in robbing members inside churches around Agbara and Okokomaiko areas of Ojo while praying.
“I also rob Okada riders of their belongings. I will hire an Okada rider to take me somewhere and on getting to a lonely spot, I will point a gun at his head to stop.
”I will order him to lie face down, rob him of his handsets and money, then I will use the motorcycle to escape. I will later abandon the motorcycle.
”On the day I was arrested, I entered the church to rob the worshippers, but immediately I entered, I suspected I was being watched and as I made to leave the church, policemen arrested me. I promise to change for the better.”
The suspect, according to the police, will be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation.
