Ikorodu-Sagamu Road Turns Death Trap

The deplorable state Ikorodu-Sagamu road as become a source of worry to motorists and commuters that use the  road daily. Some of them described it as death trap and called on both federal, Lagos and Ogun state governments to see to its early rehabilitation.

The highway which was the only link road between Lagos State and other parts of the country prior to the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has sent many an unwary driver to an early grave while many others have been maimed due to regular accidents on the road.

During a recent visit to the area, motorists decried the neglect of the road by the concerned authorities.

Mr. Adesegun Ijaola, a resident of Odogunyan area of Ikorodu said: “There is no time we have a smooth ride on this road. During the rainy season, our experience is a bad one, and even now when there is no rain the situation is not different. “Sometimes we can be in the traffic for more than two hours and there is no other cause than the bad road.

“It will be of good thing, if the government and relevant agencies could come to our rescue by repairing the road, as this would go a long way in saving lives,” he added.

Mr. Tunji Alade, another resident of Ikorodu, said the Laspotech axis is the worst part of the road, because the topography of that part has caused a lot damage to vehicles.

Alade stated that many times heavily loaded vehicles find it difficult to climb the hill and sometimes the unexpected happens when a truck overturns, spilling its contents, which takes hours to clear off the road.

Some of the affected parts of the road include Sabo roundabout, Laspotech area, Laspotech-Odongunyan road and many others.
