Motorcyclist Batters Cop

For daring to stop him at a traffic junction to pass other vehicles, a police inspector, Ekpe Arong, attached to the Adekunle Division, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria has been battered by a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Oga Awo and a refrigerator/air conditioner repairer at MCulum Street, Adekunle, Ebute-Metta, Yaba, Lagos.

The incident occurred at Adekunle/Alagomeji Junction, Yaba, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, where the police officer was detailed to direct traffic.

P.M.NEWS gathered that trouble started when the police officer stopped all the vehicles coming from the Third Mainland Bridge to Adekunle Bus Stop, to pass those going to Yaba, when suddenly the motorcyclist crossed the road and in the process hit another vehicle on the right and fell down.

Passersby who were annoyed at his action held him for the police officer and he was arrested for violating traffic regulations.

P.M.NEWS gathered that while the policeman was taking him to the station, he suddenly stopped his motorcycle and engaged the police inspector in a fight during which he used iron rod to break his hand and head.

While the fight was going on, a man identified as Abiodun Oduwoye, a friend of the motorcyclist, held the police officer from behind to enable his friend escape.

The motorcyclist escaped with his motorcycle but the police officer, assisted by sympathisers, arrested Oduwoye and dragged him to the Adekunle Police Station where he is currently being detained.

When P.M.NEWS visited the Adekunle Police Division to see the DPO for comment, he was said to have gone out, but a police source confirmed the incident, saying they are searching for the fleeing motorcyclist.
