Construction Of Lekki Port Begins

The construction of the deep sea port on the Lekki peninsula is to commence  in the third quarter of 2011, after years of fine-tuning and redesigning.

Director of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Mr Kundan Sainani, disclosed this recently, said that the organisation is putting finishing touches on critical agreement with government regulatory authorities, after which construction can start.

Sainani also stated that the Project Management Consultants, the United States of America(USA)-based firm, Louis Berger Group inc. (LBG), had already received bids for the construction from shortlisted contractors around the world.

At the request of the shortlisted contractors, according to him, the timeline to submit bids was extended to November 30, last year.

He said that at present, LBG is analysing submitted technical and commercial proposals, and final selection is expected to be concluded in the next few  months.

Sainani revealed that after his organisation conducted a macro economic impact study on the feasibility of the Lekki Port project, it was found to be of  immense benefit to the Nigerian economy.
