Houseboy Steals Master’s Car
A houseboy, Aliu Shetima, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly stealing a Range Rover SUV belonging to a Lagos lawyer, Barrister Olaseni Oyefeso on 26, Abosede Kuboye Street, Surulere, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria..
Aliu was alleged to have conspired with two of his friends who are now at large to steal the vehicle with registration number RG 481 AAA, valued at N8m.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the complainant engaged the services of Aliu as a a houseboy to take charge of his domestic matters but not long after being employed, Aliu hatched a plan to steal his master’s car.
Investigations revealed that Aliu stole the car’s key and opened the gate of the house for his two accomplices who pretended to be mechanics to take away the car.
The complainant, it was learnt, reported the theft to the police at the Surulere Division and a manhunt was launched for the accused.
He was arrested at his hideout and confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding that he took the car to Oshogbo, Osun State, for sale. The car was later recovered.
He was charged before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing under Section 390 of the Criminal Code.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.K.O. Fadeyi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
The matter has been adjourned till 7 March, 2011 while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, because he was not able to meet the bail conditions.
