Speakers at a colloquium organised by the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to kick start the 2011 general elections campaigns on Wednesday in Abuja said Nigerians have had enough of the lack of foresight and sheer planlessness of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at both the federal level and states where it is in control.
Speakers including Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) of Lagos State, his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Audu Ogbeh, governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr Abiye Sekibo, all charged members of the Action Congress of Nigeria to go to all the nooks and crannies of the country to sell the party to Nigerians.
Speaking at the ThisDay Dome, Abuja venue of the colloquium, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN), who spoke on the challenges of governance said the experience in Lagos is that the administration embarked on only programmes that tallied with the manifesto of the ACN.
He said he realised that for a state like Lagos, what was needed in a mega city is unflinching commitment to infrastructure renewal after a diligent study to meet its commercial demand.
He added that the administration invested in brick and mortar because it realised that it had to tackle the acute infrastructure deficit, as the government at the centre had not built any new road in Lagos since 1991 despite the massive explosion in population and vehicles.
He added that the Action Congress of Nigeria is a party that is ready to keep a rendezvous with history as it positions to provide huge opportunities to surpass the dreams of oour founding fathers.
