Angry Residents Storm PHCN Office Over Poor Power Supply

Residents of Irepodun and Modurotioluwa in Agbado-Oke Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State have protested the poor power supply to the area by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

The angry residents stormed the PHCN Abule Egba Unit to protest the poor power supply to the area.

They lamented that the 500 KVA transformer at Taiwo Bashorun Street is no longer capable of supplying power to communities in the area since the population had increased and appealed to the PHCN to allocate another transformer to the area.

But the PHCN has refused to give them another transformer and their businesses and social life had taken a downturn due to the epileptic power supply.

Mr. S.A. Akinwumi, Chairman, Irepodun Community Development Association, CDA, Zone C, the community has thus called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to come to their aid as the PHCN had failed them.

They said that 13 streets and several crescents share the existing transformer and that it had reached a point where the PHCN must do something urgent to salvage the situation.

According to Chief Igwe Mgbe, Chairman, CDA, Zone D, it is disappointing that for years the PHCN has continued to ration power supply to the area. He appealed to the company to save their businesses from collapse.

Youth Co-ordinator, CDA, Zone C, Mr. Bamgbose Kolapo said the youths in the area decided to protest because of the crippling social and economic situation occasioned by poor power supply to the area by Abule Egba Unit of the PHCN.
