Flying Eagles Face Hostile Weather In Turkey
The Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are not finding it easy in their Turkey’s training camp ahead of the 2011 African Youth Championship coming up in Libya next month.
Though the training facilities at the team’s camp in Antalya, Turkey have been rated to be of world standard, Chief Coach of the team, John Obuh told MTFootball.com at the weekend that they are founding it very hard to cope with the weather in Turkey, a situation that has slowed down their training schedules.
Obuh, who praised the training facilities in Antalya, said his team are still battling to come to terms with the wintry conditions in Turkey.
“It’s similar to what we experienced in Libya, it’s cold, raining and windy. We were forced to call off our training on Saturday. But I believe we can get used to the weather,†he said.
“We are training on grass pitch to help with the joints of the players and a week to the tournament we will move to an artificial pitch, when we would have taken delivery of the special boots for playing on such a pitch.â€
Meanwhile, captain of the Nigeria’s U-20 team, Ramon Azeez and Spain-based striker Stanley Okoro a.k.a ‘Little Messi’ are expected to join the team in Turkey tomorrow, according to officials.
Azeez, Okoro and Asec Mimosas striker Olanrewaju Kayode are due to pick up their entry visas to Turkey this week in Abuja and then fly out to join the rest of their teammates.
“We expect them to join us by Tuesday (tomorrow) after they would have secured their visas in Abuja,†Flying Eagles coach, Obuh said. VVV Venlo ace Ahmed Musa will also join up with the team in Turkey, but coach Obuh said he could only confirm the player’s arrival later this week.
“I have spoken to him and he told me he has a very crucial league game at the weekend and it would be only after that game that he could be definite about when he will join us,†said Obuh.
“He has assured me he will get his visa to Turkey in Holland, where he is based, and our agreement remains for him to join us in Turkey.â€
The team arrived Turkey Friday and officials said they will play their first test game tomorrow most likely against the national team of Pakistan.
