Fayemi Promises Completion Of RoadsPromises

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Monday promised to complete the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki Road project before the end of the year.

He made the promise in Ido/Osi Local Government Area at the commencement of his familiarisation tour of the 16 local government areas of the state.

The News agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that contract for the 47-kilometre road was awarded in 2008 by the ousted Gov. Segun Oni administration.

Fayemi assured the people of the state that the change of government would not affect the speed of work on the road, which he said was one of several abandoned projects by the former administration.

He said the road, which leads to Oni’s hometown, was of paramount importance to the people of the state, irrespective of their political leanings.

“People should not say that I am not interested in the project, because my elder brother (Oni) is no longer in office. Even if he is no longer in power, the Olufaki is still on the throne.

“I don’t play politics with the development of Ekiti and the welfare of our people who will be plying the road,” he added.

Fayemi also assured the people of the council area that government would resuscitate the Orin Farm Settlement scheme to create employment for the youth.

He said government planned to purchase new vehicles for fire service stations in the three senatorial districts.

The governor promised to look into all the demands made by the people of the council area, including infrastructural development, provision of employment opportunities, construction of a township stadium in Ido and economic empowerment of the indigenes.
