Bonboi Abdulmumuni, an alcohol seller in Mabushi village, was on Monday arraigned at an Abuja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a seven-year- old girl.
Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, the police prosecutor, told the court that the 23-year-old seduced the girl on Feb. 3 and had sex with her.
He added that the girl was sent on an errand by her mother.
Ibrahim said that on the same day the mother of the child reported the incident at Mabushi police station.
The accused, who admitted knowing the girl and her mother very well, pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
He said he had been living in the neighborhood since 2006 and was a labourer until recently when he started selling alcohol in front of his house.
Following the plea of the accused, Ibrahim asked for an adjournment to enable him to bring the child and the mother to court.
Chief Magistrate Akeagu Azubike remanded the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case to March 23 for further hearing.
