Chief Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Samson Siasia says there is no automatic shirt for any member of the team.
The ex-international, who is expected to lead a 20-man team to the Green Bowl Soccer Tournament, which kicks off on Saturday in the United States of America, USA said he is prepared to give any Nigerian player the opportunity to prove his mettle and failure means the player would be axed.
The former Nantes of France striker, who started his reign in the team on a 2-1 winning note in an international friendly match against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Lagos , informed that gone are the days, where players are invited into the national team based on their names or clubs.
Siasia used Inter Milan of Italy midfielder, Joel Obi, as a case study saying: “We invited Obi and he proved that he is a good player. He showed it in the friendly against Sierra Leone. Nobody gave him the chance but he showed that he can fit into the team.â€
