ACN Chieftains Commend Lawmaker Over Empowerment
The 12th empowerment programme organised by a Lagos lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1 at the State House of Assembly, Lawrence Ayeni, for his people last weekend, afforded leaders of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) the opportunity to publicly declare their support for him.
That day, Cardinal James Odunmbaku, Dr. Muiz Banire and others who attended the event, said Ayeni represented the type of politicians needed in the party.
While Odunmbaku asked the people of the area to continue to support the lawmaker, Muiz Banire said “ so many people who are supposed to be our ambassadors are not seen again after our votes until the next edition.
“This is just an example of a good politician. We have many more programmes for the people and you will continue to progress with us.â€
The ACN stalwarts witnessed the convocation of 190 students and the matriculation of another 316 of the Standard Academy, a vocational school owned by Ayeni as part of his empowerment programme for the people. He also donated helmets, dryers, fans and other tools to graduates of the school.
The school is run free of charge as part of the lawmaker’s foundation which has empowered 35,000 youths within the community since inception in 1994 through programmes like Computer Engineering, Desktop Publishing, Tailoring and Hairdressing.
While addressing guests at the event, Ayeni, who is a first timer in the House, said the programme was geared towards alleviating poverty in his constituency.
“I am not only training those who are computer literate but also those who are to be productive and capable of being self employed and I thank God that several people have benefited from the foundation,†he said.
Congratulating the graduating students, he said they had just crossed a milestone and reminded them that they had challenges ahead of them.
He also thanked the ACN for endorsing him for a second term at the House.
