Nigeria’s U-20  Flying Eagles recorded their third draw in as many build-up matches ahead of next month’s African Youth Championship, and coach John Obuh says he is satisfied with the improvements shown by the team.

“I have seen improvements from our games in Libya, where we worked with different sets of players. We are therefore making progress ahead of the competition,” Obuh said.

“Overall, it’s okay and we hope to get better in time for the championship.”

However, contrary to an official release by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Flying Eagles opponents on Tuesday were a Turkish third division side, not the Olympic team of Uzbekistan.

Last week, the Flying Eagles drew their two warm-up matches against their Libyan counterparts and on Tuesday they were again forced to a 2-2 draw by a Turkish third division side in Antalya.

Omo Ojabu put Nigeria ahead after 28 minutes but their opponents levelled up before the end of the first half.

Terry Envoh restored Nigeria’s lead in the 78th minute only for the other team to draw level, minutes to the end.

The Flying Eagles will kick off their campaign in the 17th African Youth Championship on 19 March against reigning world champions and perennial rivals, Ghana.
