Heartland Beg NFF For Akpan

Premier league side, Heartland FC of Owerri have called on Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to temper justice with mercy over the banning of their goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan .

The club want NFF to rescind its decision in the interest of justice and of the nation.

General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the club, Chief Fan Ndubuoke, who confirmed the development, said the ban was not only harsh on the player but against natural justice to punish him twice for the same offence.

The board of Nigeria Premier League, NPL, had slammed a two-match ban and N100,000 fine on the goalkeeper for allegedly pushing the centre referee during a league match between his team and Sunshine Stars of Akure in Ijebu Ode last January.

The controversial game was won by hosts, Sunshine 2-1. But, the NFF disciplinary committee which met recently, extended the ban on the player to one full season and also ordered that Akpan be dropped from the home-based Super Eagles where he was serving the nation.

Ndubuoke said, the player had already served out the punishment imposed by the organising body, the NPL and that any additional punishment was unnecessary.
