Agboyi Residents Decry Bad State Of Roads, Infrastructure

Residents of Irawo community in Agboyi/Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, have called on the state government to extend the development going on in the state to their community.

The appeal was made following the bad state of roads and lack of basic social amenities in the community, making them to feel marginalised compared to what obtains in other parts of the state.

On the state of roads, the residents lamented that among over 50 streets that make up the community, only two have been rehabilitated while others are in deplorable condition and this, they said, has made both human and vehicular movements difficult, especially during the rainy season.

According to one of the residents, Mr. Taiwo Adegun, “this is a community that has over 60 streets but none has been rehabilitated except two or three and we feel this is a bad development, even with the creation of LCDAs, we are yet to feel the impact of democracy.

“We are appealing to the Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola to visit this community and see things by himself to know the level of deprivation here.”

Another resident, Abraham Akpabio, said “the problem of roads here is that any time it rains, they become impassable and that has been the situation for time immemorial.

“Even when we saw some tractors working on the roads recently, we thought that our woes would soon come be over, but to our surprise, only two roads, Salvation and Ondo/Badeyo, were fixed, while others were left untouched.

“We are appealing the state government to come to our rescue on the problems facing us in terms of roads.”

Another resident who does not want his name mentioned alleged that since the beginning of the Otunba Yetunde Arobieke led- local council administration, the community is yet to reap the dividends of democracy and urged the state government to assist them so that they could also feel a sense of belonging as citizens of the state.

When Lagos Bulletin went round the community, it was observed that Ibadan Street has been graded for over than a year but yet to be tarred, while other streets like Fatai Ayinde, Holy Trinity, Adeyemi Ajayi, Fadayomi, Utubor, Ayinla Olugbode and Unity are in deplorable state, a situation which the residents describe as an eye sore in comparison to the mega city project of the state government.
