Lagos ’ll Dust ’Em At Sports Festival

Chairman, Lagos State Swimming Association, Samuel Jesimei, has expressed strong confidence in the ability of swimmers from the state to do well in the swimming event of this year’s National Sports Festival, holding in River State.

Jesimei hinged his optimism on the performance of swimmers that were on parade at the one-day swimming competition tagged “1st Acer-Lagos State Open Swimming Competition, which was held at the Olympic size swimming pool of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

The chairman said the way the swimmers fought for honours at the competition clearly showed that the state is abundantly blessed with swimmers that can make the state proud when hostilities commence in the swimming event of theNational Sports Festival.

Mr. Jesimei said: “We are really impressed with the way swimmers turned out for this tourney.  Even at  a very short notice, we still had a large turnout of swimmers.  Their performance  also  gives me and the entire board confidence.

“Lagos is ready for the swimming event of the National Sports Festival, we are not going there to complete the numbers but to make a strong  impact. We are ready to take other states of the federation to the cleaners..

Chairman, Lagos State Sports Council, Agboola Dabiri, showered encomiums on the sponsor of the event, ChannelIT, for throwing their weight behind the event, adding that all the swimmers discovered would be monitored and nurtured for them to become national and international champions.

Williams Gbekemiyi, who emerged as the outstanding swimmer in the male event expressed joy over the award given. He  thanked the Lagos State Government and the sponsors for the award

“I feel elated for this award and also want to thank the organisers of this event for keeping us busy. We need more of this competition to keep us busy. If there are more competitions,  more swimmers would be discovered,” Gbekemiyi said.
