Man Charged Over Attempt To Kidnap Pupil

A suspect, Akachukwu Oramalu, has been arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for attempted kidnapping.

The 29-year old Akachukwu was alleged to have attempted to  kidnap a 13-year old school girl on her way to school at Shasha area of Lagos State Southwest Nigeria last week. The incident was reported by P.M.NEWS.

The suspect was alleged to have grabbed the victim and attempted to carry her away on a motorcycle at Bello Bus Stop, Shasha.

While he attempted to escape with the girl, she screamed for help and passers-by and some motorcycle operators foiled his attempt to escape with the girl. He was arrested and handed over to the police at Shasha Station.

When the matter came up at the court yesterday, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. S. O. Solebo opened the trial during which the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) told the court how the defendant attempted to kidnap the victim.

Also the father of the victim, Biodun Shoyele testified before the court before the matter was transferred to Juvenile Court at Ikeja where the victim was expected to testify how she was almost kidnapped.

The court, while transferring the matter to Ikeja granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties.

He was, however, ordered to be remanded at Kirikiri Prison Apapa, pending when he will meet the bail conditions.
