Jonathan Visit: Ekiti Police Ban Masquerade
The police in Ekiti have banned all forms of traditional masquerades from attending Wednesday’s campaign tour of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Muhammed Jimoh, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the decision not to allow people in covered clothes, including masquerades, from getting access to the venue followed a security alert.
Also barred from entering the venue, he added, were people carrying black cellophane bags, as well as persons who go about with iron materials, including forks and spoons.
He added that there would be tight security arrangement for the visiting president, warning that all those not wanted or not connected in one way or the other should steer clear in their own interest. The PPRO explained that strict instructions had already been passed to designated officers to maintain the highest level of discipline before, during and after the visit.
“And whoever is found wanting would be apprehended and be dealt with accordingly,†he stressed.
He urged Ekiti residents to avoid being drawn into conflict with the police by going about their normal businesses in the best peaceful manner possible.
