‘Why Warriors Lost To Hoopers’
The Proprietor of Dodan Warriors Basketball Club, Retired Colonel Sam Amedu, has attributted his team failure to beat Royal Hoopers Basketball of Port Harcourt in Monday’s DSTV/NBBF Premier League played inside the indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium to costly mistake made by Mohammed Bukar in the fourth quarter of the game.
Amedu, who commended the beautiful display by both teams, said his boys would have wrapped up the game if Bukar had not committed blunder in the last quarter, a move he said have made the team wasted the chance of being placed in a good position on the league table.
“We would have won, but one careless error cost us the game. One thing I like about my team is that we like to play plain and fair game,” he said.
“It was an interesting game. We will look at all the points we missed in the course of the game. But we are still there. Our target is to qualify for the lay off.”
Amedu blamed the centre referee for giving Royal Hoopers a vital point when the ball hit the back of the upright, stressing that the referee’s attitude negates the rules and regulations of the sport.
“The ball touched the back of the board, it is an out ball but the referee gave our opponents the point. The officiating was fair, but in some areas the referee made mistakes. That ball that touched the back of the board was out. It should be our ball but he gave it to them,” he said.
He said the defeat would not deprives the team from winning their next league game, adding that all the mistakes observed in the match would be corrected.
