BRF, FGC Warri Clash In EDL Knockout Series

All is set for the semi final matches of the 2011 Express Discount Limited/Lagos Knockout Cricket tournament coming up this weekend at the University of Lagos Cricket Oval.

Still unbeaten this season, national cricket club championships winners, BRF Cricket Club will host vastly improved Federal Government College Warri Old Boys Cricket club in the first semi final match billed for the UNILAG Oval on Saturday.

BRF is a team that parades some of the best cricketers in the local scene and their blistering form and  experience puts them in a pole position. Names like Joshua Ogunlola, Lekan Awolowo, Friday Udoh, Endurance Ofem among others send fear down the spines of their opponents.

Last weekend in the Super Four League match against newly promoted FCC, captain of the side, Sean Philips scored half a century while Udoh scored 43 runs to help beat their opponents by 67 runs.FGC Warri on the other hand are in top form.

Only last week, they silenced critics with a comfortable 4-wicket defeat of highly-rated GCI Old Boys Cricket Club in the CCC  Super Four season-ending League. FGC achieved their victory  with 72 balls to spare.

The Roland Ilube tutored squad have the dangerous quartet of Emmanuel Okwudili, Uthe Ogbimi , Oboh Omogui and Oduyebo Femi as the masterminds of that feat. They can repeat it against highly favoured BRF.

The second semi final will be played Sunday at the same venue where Government College Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club will engage Lagos Asians Cricket Club.

Disappointed at their elimination from the Super Four league, GCI who are former champions of the EDL will want to hang on in the competition which is one of the traditional glamour titles in Lagos cricket.

The likes of Obed Harvey, Adegbola Kunle and Captain Odeku Oluwaseun and Femi Oduyebo will not lie low against the Asians.

The Asians will parade the likes of Ricky Sharma who is about the best batsman for LACC and  Yaawar Khan.

They will also be out to prevent a repeat of their humiliation in the hands of GCIOB earlier in the season. It no doubt promises to be a tough duel as the two teams will want to prove a point.
