Lagos Lawmaker’s Associate Kidnapped, Gunmen Demand N10m Ransom


A political associate of the Minority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Taofeek Adeniyi, has been kidnapped in Lagos.

The kidnappers are said to be demanding N10 million as ransom for the release of Ganiu Tijani who is popularly known as Fuji.

It was learnt that the kidnapped victim, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executive in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, had attended a political meeting at the lawmaker’s house in Ibeju-Lekki.

He was on his way from the meeting with Nasir, another member of the party, when the kidnappers struck.

Assembly Matters learnt that the incident which happened last Wednesday has unsettled his family members and the party especially, as they believe that the action was meant to frustrate the party.

Though no particular person has been suspected of masterminding the act, it was learnt that the politician was a force to reckon with in political issues in the area.

Speaking with Assembly Matters on phone, Hon. Adeniyi confirmed the kidnap incident but claimed none of the kidnappers has reached him for any ransom.

He also said he had made efforts to make the issue public through announcements on the state-owned radio.

“I don’t even suspect anybody but it is a surprise and it has really weakened me. I can’t gather myself,” he said, adding that the victim was a mere fisherman who did not have the kind of amount kidnappers demand as ransom.

He also called on security agents in the state to come to the party’s rescue.
