Dolphins On Course
Dolphins took a big step in their drive to be kings again with a big 3-1 win away at bottom club JUTH, as they opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier League.
The Port Harcourt outfit now have 40 points from 18 matches to open up an eight-point gap with second-placed Sunshine Stars. “Dolphin deserved their victory. We lacked maturity because a majority of the team are players who won the club promotion back to the top flight,†lamented the new Cameroonian coach of JUTH, Emmanuel Deutsche.
The Cameroonian coach told MTNFootball.com that he plans a massive clear-out during the two-week transfer window which opens on 14 March.
“The team have too many young players, who need to be taught how to win. We have to change the team by 40 or 50 percent,†a disappointed Deutsche said.
Experienced Dolphins left back Mutiu Adegoke, who was an unused substitute in this clash, told MTNFootball.com that he is now looking forward to a home game against his former team, Enyimba, next weekend.
“Enyimba are my former team and I still remember when we would come down from Aba to Port Harcourt so full of confidence to beat Dolphins in Port Harcourt,†said Adegoke.
“But things have changed. We have proved that we are invincible at home. We are determined and hungry for more points.â€
Adegoke disclosed that the team’s confidence will be hugely boosted if they finish the first round of the season with a good lead at the top.
“We wish to go into the second round of the season with a good lead at the top and our victory in Jos has already given us an edge,†he said.
Victor Michael gave visiting Dolphin a first-half lead before Samuel Aaron and Ghanaian striker Owusu Addae made the game safe after the break.
