Court Remands 3 Robbery Suspects

An Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday ordered that three robbery suspects, Sunday Obas, 20; Nwokwu Azor, 23; and Utobo Uchena, 25 be remanded in prison custody.

Police Prosecutor Benjamin Akindoyin had alleged that the suspects on Feb. 22 on the Ilesa/Ife Expressway, robbed their victims, Oluwasayo Ogunmoru and Akinlude Okewole, of their handsets, jewellery, wristwatches and shoes valued at N65,000 with guns and machetes.

He said at the time of arrest, the suspects had in their possession 17 different handsets, four wristwatches, chargers, two memory cards and two etisalat recharge cards suspected to have been stolen from their owners. No plea was taken from the suspects, and the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Adewumi Makanjuola, ordered that they be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He adjourned the case till May 16.

In another development, a 22-year-old suspect, Fatai Saamotu, was also remanded in police custody for alleged conspiracy and stealing.

Police Prosecutor Taiwo Adegoke had told the court that the accused allegedly entered into the house of one Jacob Abayomi and stole Jeans nicker, a pair of trouser, two shirts valued at N15,000 and N10,000 cash.

The magistrate, Mr. Adewumi Makanjuola, adjourned the case till March 10.
