Ngige Urged To Step Down For Incumbent, Okonkwo

Dr. Chris Ngige: sues INEC, Obiano

The former governor of Anambra State Dr. Chris Ngige, the Senatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has been called upon to step aside for the sitting Senator Annie Okonkwo of the Accord Party to consolidate on his achievements for the people of his constituency.

Dr. Chris Ngige

This call was made by the former Deputy Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, while speaking with newsmen today in Awka.

He said that the need for Dr. Chris Ngige to step down for Senator Annie Okonkwo has become imperative because Idemili North and South cannot afford to split their votes unnecessarily in the April polls, noting that the two council areas have agreed on the strategic option to accord Senator Okonkwo a second tenure.

Uzodike said that the popular wish to persuade Ngige to step aside arose from the obvious reasonableness to allow him concentrate his efforts on reclaiming his governorship election victory which is still a matter of litigation.

The former PDP chief who said he would personally lead a delegation to present the mind of the people to the former governor said he is optimistic that Dr. Ngige would listen to the voice of reason, most especially when the two local government areas have always stood behind him during his trying political periods.

Chief Uzodike emphasised that there is no need to change the sitting Senator who is doing wonderfully well for his senatorial zone and the South East in general.

“Senator Annie Okonkwo is a first term Senator who has done remarkably well. His grassroots credentials as the peoples’ Senator for now is impeccable. He has managed to generate a momentum of popular goodwill that is only peculiar to him, adding that to the people he has become their liberator from godfatherism and fraudulent politics. It certainly doesn’t make sense nor does it persuade many to change such icon,” Uzodike concluded.
