A PDP Senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North East District, Rep. Ita Enang, on Sunday said he would facilitate the exploration of oil deposits in the state, if elected in the April polls.

Enang said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, that he would facilitate an increase in Nigeria’s revenue by encouraging exploration of oil in the district. “The greatest of the things I want to do is to make sure I make Nigeria to increase its revenue earnings through exploration and exploitation of on shore oil within my Senatorial District.
According to him, the initiative will create employment opportunities for youths of the district in particular and the state in general. “I intend to use that as a means of creating employment, not just for the youth but for the people of the district,” he said. He blamed the NNPC for concentrating on existing oil wells instead of exploiting new ones in the state. “The NNPC and National Oil Spill and Response Agency have not been very responsive in this matter; they are more concerned about taking revenue from existing wells,” he said. He expressed commitment to work with Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, to enhance the development of the state. “I will maintain a cordial working relationship with the state government and the governor to develop the state,” he said. He promised to address thuggery among the youth by creating employment opportunities that would make them self-employed.
