Ritual Killers, Robbers Take Over LASU-Iba-Igando Road
It has in recent times become very dangerous to travel on the LASU-Iba-Igando Road as human hunters, ritual killers and armed robbers have taken over the expressway for their nefarious activities.
In the past few months, there have been incidents of killings and armed robberies along the road. The terror gangs usually throw logs of wood or planks at motorcyclists who ply the road late at night especially between 7pm and 10pm, forcing them to stop before carrying out their operations.
Sometimes, the robbery attacks are targeted at workers returning from work in the evening. Other victims of the criminals are businessmen and women as well as okada riders and their passengers.
A resident of the area, Lawal Taiwo, who lives at No 23, Iyana School Bus-Stop, Iba, said the road has become too dangerous at night.
He said: “Since last year that I moved to this area, I have heard more than six incidents of ritual killings along the road. The road is very dangerous especially during the night. The most dangerous part of the area is between LASU gate and the long bridge before Igandoâ€
He noted that the police are aware of the criminal activities along the expressway but lacked the necessary security strategy to permanently checkmate the criminals.
His words: “The police and all the security operatives in this area are aware of the activities of the killers along the road but they seem to be powerless. I think the police are equally afraid of securing the place because no one wants to die. I don’t blame them; it is not easy, they also have their families and they will not want to die in vain.â€
Another resident in the area, Ejike Aaron, an Okada rider who lamented the danger in riding along the express late said he has decided not to be carrying passengers along the road at night.
“My garage is at Iyana-Iba. Nobody in this area will tell you that he doesn’t know the activities of armed robbers and ritual killers on that road. I normally don’t carry passengers towards Iba or Igando any time past 5pm because the robbers normally operate between 6pm and 9pm.
