The aide-de-camp of Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina state and four others died today in a ghastly auto crash involving the governor’s convoy as it raced to welcome President Goodluck Jonathan, who had arrived the state to begin his electioneering campaign.

The ADC, Aminu Ibrahim, a superintendent of police, has been laid to rest, Nigeria’s new agency reported. The identities of the four others unknown as at the time of going to bed.

Governor Shema was unscathed in the accident as he soon joined President Jonathan at the palace of the Emir of Daura, the home of one of Jonathan’s main challengers for the presidency, Muhammadu Buhari.

After the visit to the Daura emir, President Jonathan also visited the Emir of Katsina and poured encomiums on his predecessor, Umaru Yar’Adua, who died last year May. The News Agency of Nigeria quoted the president as promising to develop the state.

Just like his experience in Kebbi and Zamfara states, President Jonathan got the endorsement of the Katsina Emir, as he promised him his people’s support, describing Katsina as Jonathan’s second home.

The president was billed to address a rally in the town of katsina later in the day.
