INEC has written the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) requesting it to ensure that equal air time be allotted to all political parties for their campaigns.
A statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the commission’s Department of Public Affairs said the request followed complaints by opposition parties about inability to access the broadcast media for campaigns and promotions.
“INEC has written to the NBC to prevail on such media to allow equal access to all the parties in consonance with the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended),†the statement stated.
It said the letter signed by INEC Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Kaugama, noted that the complaints focused more on state media outfits controlled by ruling parties.
