The police at Orile Police Division, Orile, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected conman, Estimate Eze Anayo, who specialises in duping members of the public seeking to procure visa to travel to the US.
The police alleged that the fraudster was arrested following a complaint lodged by one Cornelius Okorie that Anayo defrauded him to the tune of $6000 on the pretence of processing a USA visa for him to enable him travel to the US which did not materialise.
The police arreested the suspect and charged him before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing, offences punishable under Sections 516, 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count two of the charges reads: “That you, Estimate Eze Anayo, and others at large on the same date, time and plce at the aforementioned magisterial district did obtain the sum of $6000 from one Cornelius Okorie under the pretence that you will procure a USA visa for him knowing same to be false.” The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mr. A. O. Gbajumo granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate also directed that one of the sureties must have a landed property and adjourned the matter till 17 March, 2011.
The accused was remanded in prison custody when he could not meet the conditions attached to the bail.
