Thousands of PDP supporters on Monday converged at the Gusau trade fair ground in Zamfara to witness President Good luck Jonathan’s election campaign rally.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jonathan and his entourage, who arrived at the venue of the rally at about 4.30 p.m., were received by Gov. Mahmuda Shinkafi and other top government functionaries.
NAN further reports that in spite of the rumored threat to security, a huge crowd lined up the streets of the state capital to welcome the president.
In an address at the occasion, a former governor of old Sokoto State, Alhaji Garba Nadama, expressed optimism that PDP would win the April elections.
Nadama said that PDP’s effort at delivering dividends of democracy had made the party to occupy an unbeatable position in any election.
The former governor urged PDP supporters not to be deceived by the promises of the opposition, arguing that the party was being envied because of its wider outreach and acceptability.
On the president’s entourage was Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP acting national chairman, Bello Haliru, and the Minister of State for Health, Alhaji Sule Bello.(NAN)
