Oloto Cautions Opeluwa Over Elegba Festival

The Oloto of Oto and Lagos Mainland, Oba Ganiyu Okeyide Odesanya, has advised the Opeluwa of Lagos, Chief Lateef Ajose, to suspend the ongoing Elegba festival celebrations at Ilogbo or face the wrath of the law.

According to the Oloto, Ajose is going against the judgment of Justice Grace Onyeabo in suit number ID/238/2004 delivered on 18 February with declarations that it is only the Oloto as “Iba Agba” of the “Elegba Cult” that can approve the date for the Elegba festival in Agbo Elegba Shemore community, and that despite all entreaty to Chief Ajose, he has gone ahead not only to set a date, but started the festival.

Efforts to speak with the Opeluwa of Lagos, Chief Ajose, were not successful when P.M.NEWS visited the venue of the Elegba festival celebrations. It was, however, evident that the festival had been declared open.
